History:
The twins were born to a family in which twins were cursed, forbidden. The two of them were inseparable since conception. The first time they were seen, they were holding hands, and it was said by their mother that anything one twin did, the other did simultaneously. The two were born on a chilly November day, at precisely 11:12 in the morning, only 11.5 seconds apart, and as soon as they were out, clung to each other in their mother’s arms. The parents were very proud of their children.
The twins grew up quickly, learning everything the needed to know at a faster pace than most of the other children. By the time they were almost a year old, they had learned to help one another walk. By the time they were two, they would help each other steal their mother’s freshly baked cookies, and run off with them. The two were talking in full sentences by then as well, and were very curious, using every child’s favorite word. “Why?”
They loved to read, and could do that by age 3 ½. They would read to each other late at night, and, despite their parents’ pride in them, would get in trouble for such behavior.
When they were four is when it happened. Ichiru’s fever. It had spiked to almost 110 degrees and they were rushed to the hospital where the doctors attempted to bring it down. The parents attempted to keep Zero away from his brother, to keep him from getting sick as well, but Zero couldn’t understand why. He fought with them, and eventually got his way. He was at Ichiru’s side, holding his slightly younger brother’s hand lovingly.
It was said that Ichiru had suffered a bit of brain damage that day. When the fever broke, he could barely talk, barely read, and he had reverted to crawling. Zero decided to teach his brother the things he had lost. When Ichiru left the hospital he began to experience horrible nightmares. Zero pushed his bed together with Ichiru’s, and the two slept together, hand in hand.
A few years later, Zero had a life threatening experience as well. He had been kidnapped. And Ichiru was the first to notice. Zero had gone to camp for the summer, but when he did not return on the very hour he was supposed to, Ichiru felt tremendous fear for is sibling. He told his parents, who said it could be a problem with the bus. But Ichiru didn’t believe that. He called the camp himself, the bus had left on time, but one passenger short. Ichiru told his parents this and they all immediately went to the camp and demanded to know the location of Zero. But the parents didn’t realize that their other son was already running through the rain.
He found Zero faster than the police did, being subconsciously drawn to his brother’s presence. Zero was being held in one of the cabins, tied to a post, while his captor, one of the teachers there, was writing what looked like a suicide note. Neither of them expected the teacher to kill himself, but he did. And the twins escaped through the rain, horrified and blood-soaked.
The two of them were glued together for the next two years.
Other Stuff We Need To Know...
The twins are very dependant on one another and not so much of other people. They are both extremely intelligent. They live alone, surviving on the money their parents left them, which was quite a lot. They are both a bit mentally and emotionally unstable.

“Ceri… Ceri… Wake up brother… I think I heard something…”
Dark violet eyes opened hazily. “Iru…? What are you talking about? It’s probably just mom and dad downstairs.”
“I know that… But… I have a bad feeling…”
“Iru. Go back to sleep. Please. It’s probably nothing…”
But it was something. Something horrible as the twins would soon learn.
It was nearing midnight, the pale light of the full moon making everything sparkle as the wind blew snow around the yard of the Kiryu family’s 4 story house. The two silvery twins were sleeping peacefully at this hour, laying huddled together for warmth under their blue and green checkered comforters, which they were sharing. The younger, Ichiru, looked as if he were having a seizure, twitching in his sleep. A nightmare. Zero, the older of the twins, by only a few seconds, wrapped his arms around the smaller frame of his younger brother.
“Iru. Hush… It’s alright. Ceri’s here for you.” The young boy’s voice was a soft whisper against his brother’s ear. The younger of the two was whimpering heavily in his sleep. Zero began to shake him awake, making the younger jolt out of his uneasy sleep.
Ichiru clung to his older brother, desperately trying to shake the terrible images away. “Ceri! Ceri! I saw…! I saw…!” He was panting heavily, frantic from his dreams.
“Iru. Please calm down. Tell me what you saw.” He held onto his brother tighter as the younger boy began to cry.
“Mom… dad… dead… you too… you’re hurt… Badly brother!”
Zero laughed a little and pulled his brother away from him, kissing away the younger boy’s troubled tears. “Mom and dad are strong. So am I. We won’t leave you Iru.”
“B-but…!”
“No more but’s Iru. It’s okay. We’re fine.”
Zero lay down and pulled his brother into his arms. “I won’t let anything happen to mom and dad okay?”
Ichiru nodded, finding instant comfort in his brother’s arms. He kissed Zero’s cheek and lay his head over his brother’s heart, listening to it often put him to sleep. The two fell asleep quickly.
But as it turned out, Ichiru’s nightmare, would come true soon enough…
It was nearing 3:15 in the morning when it happened. Everything turned downhill from there. There was a knock at the door, and Lady Kiryu, being still awake with her husband at that hour, sitting in the living room watching t.v., questioned the door. Getting no answer she went to answer it. It was a young couple that the Kiryu’s had known since they had moved to this place. She welcomed them warmly into her home, explaining that the twins were sleeping. The lady smiled at Maliya and the other woman smiled in return. It was not uncommon for the Kiryu’s to get late house visits. Kenshin went to get some drinks for them.
Dark violet eyes opened. A tingling sensation had awoken the older of the twins. Zero moved silently from under his brother, who immediately took Zero’s pillow between his arms in a giant hug, replacing the warmth he had lost. Zero smiled and walked out of the room and down the hallway to the bathroom.
He heard laughter coming from downstairs, and decided to check it out, not recognizing it. That’s when he saw it… the blood. In the living room, his parents were laying face down, gasping for air. The woman in the center of the room was laughing hysterically, a knife in her hand. She had even managed to kill her own husband.
Zero couldn’t breathe. The air just wouldn’t come. That’s when she turned around and saw him on the stairs. His mother grabbed for the woman’s ankle as she ran towards him. “Cerion. Darling… You should be upstairs sleeping.”
Cerion dashed down to the basement, groping in the darkness for the sword he knew was there. He could hear her, but her footsteps were not going for him… “Ichiru…” He was stunned again. First his parents… but his brother? The thing most dear to him on the planet? No… She wouldn’t get to him. Zero dashed up the stairs, thin katana in hand. Before long he realized that it was his father’s.
He caught up to her quickly, adrenaline rushing through his veins. He swatted her heel with the sheathed weapon, making her trip slightly. She turned on him, slashing madly, cutting open his pale shoulder, staining it red. He unsheathed the weapon, the pain not setting in immediately. She turned on him again, setting him off balance, knocking him over, he fell down a few steps, the katana left lying at her feet. She picked it up, and tossed it over her shoulder. She got closer to him, picked him up. Zero fought against her, but she was much bigger and stronger than he was, and soon he was lying next to his dying parents.
She dug the blade into his shoulder. He could feel the pain now, burning him. He cried. He felt his mother’s hand touch his softly. “Be strong…” She whispered. “Take care of my boys…”
The lady was gone. Up the stairs. Ichiru was awoken by her entering the room and was instantly confused. “Umm… Hello miss… Where is my brother..?”
She smiled sadly at him, as if pitying him. “There was an accident… They’re dead… Your family. I tried to stop it.. But… They’re all dead… I will take you home Ichiru… Beautiful son…”
Ichiru’s eyes widened. “No… No… You.. You aren’t… serious are you…?”
“I’m afraid so…” She wrapped one of the blankets around him and lifted him into a standing position. He was too shocked to the core to cry. He blindly followed her downstairs. “Shield your eyes child. It isn’t a pretty sight…”
She led him past the living room, but he looked anyways. He saw his mother and father, lying in pools of their own blood. “What happened…? Where’s Ceri?” She looked to the living room, her grasp tightening on Ichiru’s shoulder. Cerion wasn’t there.
A scream echoed throughout the house as Zero tore down the stairs, unsheathed katana digging itself into the woman’s flesh, severing her spine and piercing her heart. She was dead the moment she hit the ground. Zero collapsed with her. “Brother!”
Zero was unconscious for three days. Ichiru never left his side.
Zero woke up in the hospital. His brother asleep at his side. “Iru…?” His voice hurt.
“Cerion. Ichiru is sleeping, let him do so.”
“Uncle Kaien?”
The man at the door nodded. “Yes. I am to be your guardian until you are both 18. But I am afraid that I cannot stay here. It is up to you both if you wish to move with me.”
Zero shook his head. “It’s both of our decisions. If Iru wants to do it. Than we will…”
That was 7 years ago. The twins did wind up moving and they are living very comfortably with their uncle, who is almost never home anyways.
